Guide to...Lincoln
This weekend is our Lincoln event.
Lincoln is an amazing city. It is a cathedral city that can be traced back to the Iron Age, with a settlement at Brayford Pool.
The Romans settled in AD 50 and built a fortress which evolved into a settlement, evidence of which can still be seen around the city.
There is a huge amount of history and historical attractions to see and guided walks around the city help to bring it all to life. The city has art galleries and museums which help add to the wealth of culture.
It has a vibrant cultural scene and there are many outdoor markets throughout the year, with local produce and arts and crafts for sale, including the famous Christmas market at the beginning of December.
Not forgetting our events at the Epic Centre!
It's the largest of our venues and we're returning for our 12th year. The venue gives us the opportunity for more talks and workshops and stage performances that we can't have at other venues.
We will have 120 stands and all our usual features. Can't wait to see you there!

Guide to...Aylesbury
This weekend sees BSSK return to Aylesbury.
Aylesbury is a historic town that can trace it's history back to 650BC through the remains of an Iron Age hill fort.
It has a vibrant community with lots on over the year and plenty of places for some retail therapy!
The Gateway Conference Centre is situated on the junction of the ring road and the A41 north out of Aylesbury, it's a modern and unique venue.
Angie visited last week and was delighted with the light bright space that they call "The Street" which is where our event will be held. It looks stunning and just the spot for our return! It has a cafe, which has just changed management and looks great, it will be open for both days.
We have a great line up with lots of different stalls, our childrens' Treasure Hunt, free car parking, free talks and workshops.
Trip Advisor has 144 restaurants listed for Aylesbury so plenty of choice if you're staying over for both days.
It's going to be a great weekend.
26th and 27th April, 10am till 5pm. Hope to see you there!

Event Update
We'd like to thank everyone that made the Monastery event so special this weekend!
From the exhibitors to the speakers to the visitors, you all made this event so wonderful. The feedback we've had has been great. Lots of you have said that the energy was amazing and uplifting. It was a busy show and we're thrilled people have got so much out of it.
Our next show is Aylesbury on 26th and 27th of this month. As some of you know we did have a show there a few years back until the venue was demolished. It's great to be back in that part of the country, it's our most southerly show and we can't wait to be back.
It promises to be a great return with 65 stands and our usual features. Hope to see you there!

Happy New Year
Happy New Year from all the BSSK team.
We'd like to say a massive thank you for all your support over the last 12 months.
2013 has been a roller coaster, we've been lucky enough to have lots of exhibitors and speakers at our shows - in fact, we feel, it's been a bumper year!
Our little hiccups at the Monastery have been overcome, we returned to Scunthorpe with our one day Psychic Fair, we've restarted the blog and had some amazing people give us some very funny, touching and diverse interviews. Again, a big thank you to everyone - we feel blessed to share our lives, personal and professional with you all.
2013 has been great in many ways but are thoughts are also with people we know that haven't had such a great year. With this in mind we wish everyone a wonderful 2014 and hope you all are blessed this coming year.
Blessings x

2014 Updates and News
2013 has been an excellent year with the shows and with moving our work forward. I think there is plenty to be optimistic about for next year.
In fact we are very excited about our shows next year. All our usual fantastic venues plus a few new ones. Scunthorpe Psychic Fair was a wonderful day and we're looking forward to the next one.
Grimsby is our next show on the 1st and 2nd of February 2014 at the Humber Royal Hotel. It does seem a long way off but we still have plenty to keep us (very!) busy. In the meantime check out our website for some great articles, information on other events and links to our exhibitors.
Until the next show we will be keeping the blog active with news, articles and more interviews.
If you want to become an exhibitor at one of our shows, take a look at our exhibitor area. There you will find all the information you need and you can always give us a call on 01724 849886 with any other queries.
Just a little "housekeeping" now! We are in the process of moving our Facebook page back to it's original home. The address is www.facebook.com/EventsBSSK We have decided to do this because of a few issues we had with new supporters being unable to find us and also we were not able to show our support to our friends through "likes" and by commenting and sharing. We will run both Facebook pages until the New Year which should give us plenty of time to get everyone on the new page. It's very important to us that we get Facebook right as it remains, alongside the website, our best way of keeping everyone up to date.
As you know the website is www.bssk.co.uk and is updated regularly. Because we do pass a lot of information through the internet and e-mail it is important for us to have current e-mail addresses. If you do change your e-mail address please let us know. If you don't have regular access to e-mail we do have alternative ways of getting you the information you need so give us a call.

Lincoln News
Preparation for Lincoln is in full swing and we're very excited about the show this year (as we are every year!)
There is a FREE workshop with Jacky Newcomb on saturday and we have Helian Keys live on stage on both days.
Whirling Dervishes will be performing each day and at the opening ceremony as well.
Amazing speakers and workshops split into two rooms due the amount of guests we have.
The author table sees Johanna Claritee, Brigitte Rix and Lisa Whitehead. So, a great opportunity to meet and have a chat with these inspirational authors. You also get signed copies of their books.
The show has all the usual BSSK attractions - Zone of Tranquillity, a relaxing space to sit and reflect, the free Children's Angel Feather Hunt with a prize for every child, and the free prize draw for every paying adult. This is drawn at 4pm on the Sunday of the show - don't worry if you are not on site, we ring and notify the winner and winners are listed on the website after the show.
All this and some christmas shopping inspiration as well!

Interview with Hilary Cooper
Tonight we are posting a great interview with kinesiologist and intuitive healer Hilary Cooper. As well as being at the shows, she offers treatments, well being events and is an awesome blogger. As always we want to say a big thank you to Hilary for taking the time to answer our questions. She can be found online at www.simplyh.co.uk
To start with can you tell us a little bit about yourself.
Like a lot of people, I started out doing something completely different: I’ve been an English teacher for 20 years, but I always felt I was looking for something more – a deeper sense of purpose and fulfilment, perhaps. Then, a few years ago, I met a friend of a friend at a party, and she ended up treating me there and then! I had a huge reaction, and went home feeling fantastic. When I walked in the front door, my husband said, ‘What happened to you? You look different.’
Soon after, I started training doing a Touch for Health (Applied Kinesiology) course, and I’ve just kept on following my nose, taking courses and gaining experience as my journey has unfolded. They say, the more you learn, the more you realise how much you don’t know. That’s definitely true!
Tell us a bit more about kinesiology – is it more than muscle testing?
To be honest, muscle testing is just a tangible way of tapping into a person’s deeper consciousness. Our conscious minds really like to be in control, and sometimes they tell us stories that aren’t strictly true, which stops us getting to the bottom of the problem.
I am convinced that the body is our barometer of truth. We might think one particular thing is the issue, but sometimes our body can tell us a deeper truth - something our conscious mind doesn’t yet know. Muscle testing is one way that the body can lead us into a deeper understanding of the causes of our pain.
No two sessions are ever the same and I never know for sure what will happen until we get started. Sometimes I do a lot of physical work, rubbing points, rebalancing muscles. Other times I work in a more intuitive way, perhaps working with energy. I am always guided by what the client’s body wants; I really try not to impose my own ideas. In the deepest level of our being, each of us knows what we really need to get well, we just can’t always tune in to that information. That’s where I come in.
What’s involved in one of your Wellbeing events?
As women, we give so much: to our partners, our families, our work, and sometimes it’s hard to find time to nurture ourselves.
My friend and I just kept meeting all theses lovely women who were saying exactly that. We thought, “Why not create space for like-minded women to connect and spend a day boosting our own health and happiness?”
We focus on different things, from relaxation, to dealing with anxiety, to the power of laughter, but our aim is always to provide busy, selfless women with a bit of deep ‘soul-pampering’.
Which writer or thinker has influenced you the most?
Just one?? That’s a challenge!
The one writer who had the most obvious impact on me is John Barnes (the myofascial release expert, rather than the footballer!) His book Healing Ancient Wounds: The Renegade’s Wisdom’ utterly convinced me that our bodies store trauma, pain and stress which has to be released on a bodily level for us to heal. We can’t just ‘think ourselves better’.
What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given.
There are two, I’m afraid!
i. “You’re just one messed up human being trying to help another messed up human being feel a little better.” (A paraphrase of Eugene Gendlin) I tell myself that daily, because it’s all too easy to feel like you’re supposed to be all sorted if you want to help someone else.
ii. “Stay in your body!” I’ve learnt through bitter experience that healing will not work if we deal with our pain by escaping off into the universe. Being human means we are intended to embody all our spiritual truth and power here, in this flesh and blood body. That’s how we become agents for real change- even though it hurts more!
Six desert island books or films:
The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle: I’d need to remind myself to revel in what is, rather than regrets and what-might-have-beens.
Hands of Light, by Barbara Brennan: I might manage to absorb all that powerful wisdom and emerge a fully-fledged healer if I ever got off the island.
Travels with my Aunt by Graham Greene (and the film): I love Maggie Smith’s portrayal of the ageing woman of the world who grabs life with both hands.
Life is Beautiful: a film that makes me laugh and cry, and reminds me that there can be light in the middle of the bleakest darkness.
My Anatomy and Physiology text book: If I was on a desert island I might find it easier to knuckle down to some serious study for my exam in the spring!

Interview with John Woodward
Another great interview in the run up to the Lincoln show on 2nd and 3rd November. John Woodward is a tutor at the School of Philosophy in Lincoln and will be giving a talk on saturday. The talk is "The Benefits of Practical Philosophy on Spirit Mind and Body." It promises to be a great talk, and we'd like to thank John for taking the time to answer our questions.
To start could you tell a little bit more about yourself.
I am well into my 70's and have practices "practical philosophy" for much of my life. Some of that has been devoted to my family, some to my work as an architect, some as a tutor of the School of Philosophy in Lincoln, some to the people of the village where I have lived for the last many years in Lincolnshire, some to the wonderful building which is Lincoln Cathedral. One learns that to live is to serve.
Why do you think there is such a demand for philosophical and spiritual counselling, is humanity a bit lost at the moment or are we evolving?
It would be presumptuous to suggest that humanity is lost, for we cannot comprehend humanity in its fulness, or indeed its purpose. But it is clear that a large number of human beings today are looking for something which ordinary life does not fulfil. For an individual such a search could lead to an evolution in every part oft their life. in former times the term transformation was used to describe the process we have called evolution and history has a number of instances when transformation/evolution has happened with the effect of lifting whole communities and nations out of a relatively miserable existence. By comparison with those times, for many in the world today today ordinary life may well seem a struggle. When something is missing we want to find it; by searching in the right way this leads to evolution.
Can you tell us more about the Philosophy of Advaita.
Advaita philosophy is interesting because it poses a very unusual view. The word Advaita translates simply as "not two". To try and explain the significance of this: In the way in which our scientific culture has developed, the universe and all that is contained within it is understood to be made up of separate components. The effect of this view is, for example, the notion that each individual human being is separate from every other human being. On the other hand, Advaita says that there is a single substance or energy from which everything in the universe arises and therefore no thing is separate from the rest. The apparent changes perceived by say our senses, are modifications of that single substance which take place in accord with its nature. An analogy to explain what this means would be the substance we call water. This may appear as the liquid substance we normally refer to as water, but it can also change into ice or into steam, when its appearance and behaviour is quite different; but the substance water remains constant throughout. Just to expand this idea a little further, the world today is mostly governed by the idea of separate existencies, separate truths even, and certainly thinks in terms of fundamental opposites such as winners and losers, right against wrong, mine and yours. This gives rise to conflicts between these opposites. But governed by the Advaita view, there can be no opposites and therefore no conflicts. At this point I will stop and simply ask you to reflect on situations from your own experience where there has not been conflict or disagreement of any sort and then ask yourself what made this possible.
Which writer/thinker has influenced you the most.
To ascribe influence to a single individual writer/thinker would miss seeing that such people derive their knowledge from ideas and teachings conveyed through traditions often long-held in human history. So for example I have the highest respect for the writings of Shakespeare, but understand that he was informed by ideas coming from many sources and his genius was to get to the heart of those ideas and see them for the truth they reveal and then to put this down in a way that can convey that to generations that follow. Seen in this way one has to acknowledge that one has been influenced by countless people, and among them one's parents, one's teachers, one's role models as well as the star individuals with names like Shakespeare, Plato, Mozart, the builders of the medieval cathedrals and so on. And one may then ask, would one of these on its own have exerted an influence if all the others had not done so as well.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given.
Be still and remember your true Self.
Would you name 6 “Desert Island” books or films (ones you would like if you were stranded on a desert island - for young ones who don’t know about Desert Island discs!)
I'll suggest 6 films:
As You Like It
Charlie's Aunt
The Importance of Being Earnest
Henry V
Buster Keaton (The General)
Jean le Fleuret and its sequel

Would you name 6 “Desert Island” books or films (ones you would like if you were stranded on a desert island - for young ones who don’t know about Desert Island discs!)
I'll suggest 6 films:
As You Like It
Charlie's Aunt
The Importance of Being Earnest
Henry V
Buster Keaton (The General)
Jean le Fleuret and its sequel

Newark Prep and Gorton News
Well, just a few more days until Newark! Cannot believe how quickly this has come around. It's now too late to buy tickets online but you can still contact us and have tickets reserved for pick up.
It's promising to be a great show (again!) with a wide range of speakers, including Jacky Newcombs' FREE talk on saturday. As usual lots of great exhibitors and, dare I say, never too early for a bit of christmas shopping....go to Newark Event for the full list of exhibitors and speakers.
After Newark we have the Monastery. A few concerns about the layout and the catering last year. However, with the stands back in the cloisters, the catering back in the marquee, we can avoid the issues we had last year. There is hot food in the cafe but on a "come when you want" basis and will not be ticketed. Cold food and coffee station in the marquee with seating for that all important chill time! We are confident Gorton will now feel how it did in past years, with less frustration on all sides. We're very excited this year.
Hope to see you there ;)

Interview - Sidney Vincent The Neem People
To start off our interviews we've got an interview with Sidney Vincent. His business The Neem People will be exhibiting at Elsecar on 24th and 25th August after a long absence.
To start off, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Can you tell us the benefits of your products?
Not for nothing is the Neem Tree called The Village Pharmacy, as the benefits are numerous. Taken internally Neem helps stimulate the immune system, liver detoxification, regulate body functions. It’s anti- fungal properties make it helpful in treating internal fungal problems. It is also antibacterial and antiseptic . All these properties come to the fore in Neem body products such as face creams, lotions, soaps, toothpaste and other oral hygiene products. The proven benefits of The Neem People’s Neem products are now fairly well known worldwide.
You've stayed true to your vision ie not been tempted by MLM, is this a vocation rather than "just a job"?
We like to paddle our own and have had to paddle upstream sometimes, but we have the satisfaction of knowing that our achievements to date are off our own bat, mixed metaphors et al. Like most starters we have had approaches from others to sell their products, but we will not be swayed from our path of promoting the benefits of the Neem Tree. We are passionate about this and set ourselves as examples of what the Neem Tree has done for us, and what it can do for others.
Which writer/thinker has influenced you the most?
Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and other icons have inspired many to rise above themselves. My inspiration comes from nearer home; my father.
What's the best piece of advice you've been given?
Many thanks to Sidney for taking the time to answer our questions. You can find him at Elsecar in August and on the web at theneempeople.com
To start off, could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
The hospitality industry provided my background. My hotel management training and qualifications provided me with the springboard to venture into the world, catapulting me to a number of countries worldwide where my real education began. Insularity went out of the window as I voraciously absorbed the cultures of the countries I was fortunate to work and live in. Old heads will tell you that the best way to learn a business is by starting at the bottom, and by keeping an open mind as you climbed each rung of the ladder. In doing this I learned how to communicate with people at all levels and to appreciate the efforts needed to keep the wheels of the business turning successfully.
Domestic requirements put paid to globetrotting and I had to scale > down to a different level. It was a calculated descent, rather than a fall, and it took the steadfast support of my wife to help me through the initial difficult period. The inherent spirit kicked in and we went on to gain national recognition as Innkeepers. Physical problems put paid to this chapter.
In a chance encounter, a clinical aromatherapist friend happen to mention her using Neem effectively in treating a major head lice problem. I found a seed and lodged it in my fertile mind: I remembered Neem from my childhood ( did I mention that I am from India?) and cogitated on the fact that no one seemed to know about Neem in the UK – nay, in the western world- so I decided to spread the word.

Do whatever you are doing to the best of your ability, with dignity, and your reward must follow, though it may not be in the way you were hoping.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. You reap what you sow.

Interview Update (mini-version!)
Wow, it's been a very exciting couple of days. Our call-out for exhibititor and speaker interviews has been amazing!
I've been a blogger in one way or another (remember MySpace?!) for nearly ten years. In that time I've done a handful of little interviews but nothing on this scale.
Having to research and interview nearly sixty people over the next few days has bought it's challenges but it's also shown what amazing people we have walking this earth. Right now. People who are committed to changing the world for the better. When we start posting them, you'll see exactly what we mean.
We know most of you believe this anyway but sometimes it's a bit difficult to stay positive with all news that gets constantly piped to us via every method of communication these days. I personally try to steer clear of news but it creeps in everywhere. But the good outweighs the bad. And these interviews will prove that. We'll leave you with a quote from Fred Rogers - and if someone could enlighten me as to who he was I'd be very grateful ;)

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." To this day, especially in times of disaster, I remember my mothers words, and I am always comforted by realizing there are still so many helpers - so many caring people in this world."

Show Updates and Blog News
Another busy week at BSSK!
The 2014 booking pack is out to existing exhibitors and should be on the website within the next week.
Newark has had two stand cancellations so anyone who is not a reader, aura camera, jewellery, FLP, or crystals please give Angie a call on 01724 849886 for discussion. Godmanchester is shaping up to be a great show with just one stand left there! Again ring Angie for discussion.
We are looking for sites for our advertising boards in Cambridgeshire and Newark (and surrounding area). Free tickets and a £20 supermarket voucher offered to anyone with a suitable site. This should be on private property domestic or commercial where there is a lot of passing traffic.
Regarding the blog, while we are still making it news orientated, we are in the final preparations for a series of interviews with our regular speakers, readers and exhibitors. If you haven't been contacted yet and would like us to promote you and your work through an interview, drop us a line through Facebook or e-mail Elaine at laineymiller8@gmail.com Again, we'd love to hear from you!

Manchester News
5th and 6th of October sees the Mind, Body & Spirit Weekend at Manchester.
We wanted to let visitors know that the seating is back in the marquee. As you may remember last year a late fire inspection led to all of the stands being taken out of the Cloisters and put into the catering marquee. It was not an ideal situation but it was impossible to let down all those exhibitors at the last minute. Consequently there was limited space for refreshments and relaxing.
This year we have had enough time to sort out these issues and the situation with the Cloisters has been resolved and the seating is back to normal! It's a busy and exciting show so somewhere to rest up from time to time is vital and makes the day even more enjoyable.

Programme Update
For some weeks now I have been driving miles, much of it in this heat looking at venues to add to our programme. We had a ‘consolidation’ year this year, we cut back to our core shows, many of which are 10 to 12 years old and still strong, plus the two wonderful Monastery shows and Wood Green Animal Shelter in Cambridgeshire. We kept that one because a) I think it showed potential, particularly with the amount of e-mails and telephone calls post show last time and b) Chris is such a dog lover!
The idea was to use this year to plan and decide on the direction we wish to take BSSK next. Planning done, I have just completed the programme on Friday. Next year we have 16 shows!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sudden rush of blood to the head???? Most definitely! All very exciting stuff and I hope to have the exhibitor pack prepared and e-mailed out by Wednesday latest, which is the last day of July.
The programme includes the return of the Grimsby/Cleethorpes summer show – you would not believe how many visitors have e-mailed and phoned about it – it is clearly sorely missed this year – so back we go next year with a slightly smaller show (50 stands) in another new location for that area.
In these difficult times we have decided to add some more 50 – 60 stand size shows, rather than trying to make them all 80+ in size. We think this is a sensible move when starting a new show and then letting it build – rather than aiming too high to start with. Pity they can’t all be Monastery shows – it flew from day one, but as long as we can see potential in a new show, we will work with it to build it up. These slightly smaller shows will have slightly reduced spaces for readers, crystals and jewellery - the three categories that we are always inundated with enquiries for, so we do not wish our regular exhibitors to take offence if they are turned down for the odd one or two – we will try and distribute them fairly across the enquiries, but it is in all our interests not to have too much of any one type of stand.

Back to Blogging...
As some of you know, blogging is a tricky act. Many are born but not many keep going. It has been a little while since we at BSSK have posted, however it is time to get back to it!
The intent is still there to keep everyone informed in the "behind the scenes" workings at BSSK, updates on events and happenings and generally keep in touch.
We're also intending to post news, interesting stories, interviews and articles all relating to what we do. While in these early stages we have made a few changes to our social media which we want to make you aware of.
We have a new Twitter profile - twitter.com/AngieBSSK and we have also created a Pinterest profile at http://pinterest.com/ajury1111/boards/ If you haven't been on Pinterest, have a little look. It's a very energising website with a great exchange of ideas, inspiration and even recipes.
We are looking forward to posting more often on here, and especially sharing our stories and reading your comments!
