Hello,
we decided to do Weekend Reads this week even though most of you won't have time to look, what with the Grimsby show this weekend! We are so excited get the 2014 events underway. Anyway we found another mix of sites to look at in some quiet moments ;)
The Unbounded Spirit
This is a really big site which posts on many subjects but all with a spiritual/philosophical approach. An interesting blog that manages to have something interesting whatever you are in the mood for. Unless you're looking for funny cats...
The Food Network
It's what you expect, food and recipes. I was looking for something new to try for a veggie dinner. Typed in "New Age food" to a Google search and the feature the link takes you to was for "The New Age of Casseroles". I think in this weather, comfort food like this is a fine idea!
Association for the Scientific Study of Anomolous Phenomena
A charity and society that scientifically studies the Paranormal. This is an amazing organisation. It seems to fall on the middle ground of not dismissing peoples experiences, but looking at them through a balanced and unbiased way. Phenomena is recorded and studied and not just used as examples for an agenda. Interesting reads.
What Should I Read Next
Not a site to read, but it's a searchable database for books. If you're stuck for something new to read or want to find a new author to get into, type in a book you love and the search engine will suggest books that are similar to it. If you're like me, you have a pile of books waiting to be read but bookmark the site because you never know when that might come in handy...

Reiki - In Focus
Hello,
we're starting a new feature tonight called "In Focus". We know a lot of people attending our shows already know a lot about New Age subjects and complementary therapies but for this feature we are aiming at people who are just starting on a new path.
The "In Focus" feature is intended to be a simple look at our subject and hopefully provide a little inspiration for jumping into something new!
Starting with Reiki, which tends to be one of the first therapies that people try. It's a very gentle and relaxing therapy which has gained a lot of popularity in recent years.
Reiki (ray-key) is Japanese for "universal life energy", a system of natural healing.
It was founded in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and evolved through his research, and experiences.
The system of Reiki was developed by Dr Usui in 1922 while performing Isyu Guo, a 21 day Buddhist training course held on Mount Kurama. While undergoing this training Usui had gained the knowledge and spiritual power to apply and attune others to what he called Reiki, which entered his body through his crown Chakra.
Reiki is a form of hands-on-healing, through its use, practitioners use set hand positions to transfer universal energy which allows for self-healing and a state of balance.
There are two main traditions of Reiki, Traditional Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki. However, in essence both traditions of Reiki treatments can help the body emotionally or spiritually. It is a tradition that is open to any belief system and in some cases is followed as a Spiritual tradition in its own right.
In a typical Reiki treatment, the person having the treatment will lie down and start to relax while the Reiki practitioner might takes a few moments to enter a calm or meditative state of mind and mentally prepare for the treatment.
The treatment involves placing the hands on the recipient in various positions. However, the hands are usually held a few centimetres away from the body. The hands are usually kept in a position for three to five minutes before moving to the next position. Between 12 and 20 positions are used, with the whole treatment lasting anywhere from 45 to 90 minutes.
As a universal energy Reiki can be practiced by anyone as long as they have been "attuned" to the system. Reiki attunements are divided into 3 levels, all of which include teachings and attunements. Most Reiki practitioners also run or belong to Reiki Share groups. These events are usually open to everyone. You can try a mini-treatment, learn more about Reiki and meet up with new people.
As with any complementary therapy, when looking for someone to give you a treatment it's always best to find someone that is recommended by someone you know.

Weekend Reads
Morning,
welcome to our first regular feature! Starting off with some easy reading today, lol.
Every Friday we are going to post links to some other blogs and websites that the BSSK team love. There's been much debate recently about the internet and how good/bad it can be. The scaremongers like to show us it's full of pockets of nastiness and conspiracies and bullying. We know that element exists but we believe it's mostly a force for good and we're going to prove it...
We don't intend to theme the Weekend Reads. It's going to be a random mix that we found interesting and relevant to us, so hopefully everyone should find something they like.
The Happiness Project
Gretchen Rubin is a New York based writer who decided that while not unhappy, she wondered if she could increase her happiness levels. Is it possible to make yourself happier? Her blog turned into a best selling book which, while seeming self-indulgent was actually a great read and an interesting self-help book. Lots of fun and inspiring too.
Philosophy for Life
Jules Evans suffered an emotional crisis that he was rescued from by ancient Philosophy. Can ideas invented and developed over 2,000 years ago help us today? A more challenging blog but an amazing read.
Liz Lamoreux
A creative journey to your inner self. Liz hosts creative retreats and workshops in what she describes as "inner Excavation" exploring your inner self through art and creativity. She has plenty of online tools and a lively blog.
Kristy Hodges
Serendipity Crystals is an amazing website, packed with information and crystals, energy work and psychic development. A lively blog that is always so up-beat it's hard to not be filled with enthusiasm.
Hope you enjoy some of these blogs, let us know if you did!

Event News and Blog Update
Morning!
Racing towards our first show of 2014, we really can't wait to get started. Grimsby is just over a week away.
The guides for Grimsby have been posted out. If you would like to receive one by post or e-mail please e-mail events@bssk.co.uk
An initial list of Newark exhibitors is now on out website and we also have a list of the talks on at Newark as well.
Hannah Luff of Lincoln was our lucky prize draw winner at our very last show of 2013, will you be lucky this year?!
As you may know we are on the lookout for anyone willing to put posters or leaflets out for our shows, within a 45 minute drive of any of our shows. So if you work in or own a therapy centre, beauty salon or work in a health related establishment and would like to help us out get in touch and in return we'll provide you with a pair of free tickets to one of our shows.
From tomorrow we start posting some regular features and articles on the blog. The interviews we've done have been a fantastic way to start the re-boot of the BSSK and we do have plans for more. However we wanted to diversify a bit more!
We're going to have regular features on complementary therapies, New Age articles, spirituality and much more. Look out for our first regular feature tomorrow.
